In 2017 our area achieved a major milestone in supporting the unprecedented growth by having its first wastewater treatment plant constructed. Along with our partner and plant owner, Plum Creek Utility Company, CLSUD was able to construct a wastewater collection system that collects and delivers sewage back to PCU’s treatment plant on Grist Mill Road. The Grist Mill wastewater treatment plant uses the latest technology send the collected waste through a filtration and treatment process that reclaims a tremendous amount of the water that costs us so much to get into our system in the first place. The water that is produced as a result of this treatment process on Grist Mill is quite literally drinkable. So, does this extremely clean, high-quality water just flow back into Plum Creek only to flow downstream and be collected and used by others? As of 2024, that answer is no. CLSUD began construction on a reuse plant right next to the wastewater treatment plant that will make this reuse water available back to the public via a separate distribution system that will allow businesses and developers to tap into our “purple pipe” system for irrigation and other non-potable uses. This will prove to save our customers an enormous amount of money in the future as we continue to find ways to keep the water we pay for in our system and in our community.
